Joseph Kingma is an internationally acclaimed concert pianist celebrated for his poetic artistry and technical mastery. The New York Concert Review lauded his ability to “coax the listener into the music’s poetry from the very first notes,” noting that his technique “is capable of anything” and is “always used in the service of the music itself.” 

In 2017, Dr. Kingma won First Prize in the American Liszt Society’s Franz Liszt International Piano Competition. He has since performed with numerous orchestras, including the Monroe Symphony, Rapides Symphony, Bartlesville Symphony, Manassas Symphony, Gulf Coast Symphony, and the Chamber Orchestra of Sarasota. His solo engagements feature appearances at prestigious venues such as Chicago’s Dame Myra Hess Concert Series, New York’s Yamaha Artist Services Performance Series, the Music Institute of Chicago, and the Louisiana Piano Series International. His performances have been broadcast on Chicago’s classical music station, 98.7 WFMT. 

As a chamber musician, Dr. Kingma has collaborated with members of the Palm Beach Symphony, Palm Beach Ballet Orchestra, Rapides Symphony, and Austin Symphony. He was a guest artist for the Palm Beach Chamber Music Festival from 2019 to 2021 and currently performs with the SONUS International Music Festival.

A dedicated educator, Dr. Kingma has taught masterclasses at institutions such as Florida International University, the University of North Alabama, the University of Toledo, Samford University, William Carey University, Mississippi State University, and the College of the Ozarks. He has also adjudicated for competitions including the SONUS International Composition Competition, Oklahoma Music Teachers Association, Mississippi State Music Teachers Association, Houston Music Teachers Association, and the Palm Beach County Music Teachers Association.

Dr. Kingma served as Assistant Professor of Piano at Louisiana College from 2016 to 2018 and as Keyboard Division Coordinator and Assistant Professor of Piano at Palm Beach Atlantic University from 2018 to 2023. He currently teaches out of his private piano studio in Tulsa, Oklahoma, sharing his passion for pianistic artistry with the next generation of pianists. He also accepts selected students from across the country via online lessons.

He earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin under the mentorship of Anton Nel and holds both Master and Bachelor of Music degrees from Rice University, where he studied with Robert Roux. His early musical development was guided by Elena Arseniev, Philip Pletcher, and Aviram Reichert.

Dr. Kingma resides in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with his wife, Rebecca, and their four children.
